ICO Review – BestMeta

Every day dozens of new tokens are announced at bitcointalk. We go through them all – so you don’t have to – and pick the cream of the crop.

BestMeta is an “Esports community blockchain exchange program”. Developed and pushed by eSports commentator Tobiwan, BestMeta aims to improve the economic ecosystem of eSports through tokenization.

The current eSports economy depends heavily on large industry players such as game publishers or product sponsors who may or may not always have the eSports talents or fans best interests at heart. Crowdfunding has stepped in to fill the gap but current platforms still fall short on transparency and accountability.

Through tokenization, BestMeta aims to achieve a transparent crowdfunding ecosystem that allows fans to directly reward talents for quality content(such as livestreams, video tutorials, etc.), thus helping eSports talents achieve financial sustainability independent of  publishers and sponsors, while also receiving better bang for their buck.

BestMeta tokens can be used by fans not only to pay for quality content from the talents they admire, but can also be used to pay fans for helping the talent with marketing, or community management.

BestMeta’s token pre-sale starts February 15th and goes until the 28th. The soft cap is $2 million dollars and the hard cap is $22 million, with a token price locked at $0.60. Interestingly, the project accepts both fiat and crypto, with contribution options including wire transfer, credit card, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin.

The token distribution plan is very transparent, and the website shows both how contributed funds will be used, as well as how the BMT tokens will be distributed.

Some things we are a bit wary about with this project are that only 40% of the tokens are being made available to the public sale, as well as the marketing messaging which focuses a bit too much on the benefit for eSports talents rather than the benefits fans will receive. Finally, BestMeta will work best if its strongly adopted by eSports talents and the community, but it’s hard to say at this point if that will happen or not.

Despite these drawbacks, we like this project quite a bit. Its high profile spokesperson “Tobiwan” not only helps generate hype but also lends credibility to the project, as does its transparent token economics and sensible goals. The team involved seems quite professional as well. Finally, even at this early stage, this project has gotten a lot of buzz across both traditional as well as social media.
